AFC-ASIA: 5 QUALIFICATE
Il Qatar parteciperà al torneo di diritto come nazione ospitante. Le altre qualificate della confederazione asiatica sono Corea del Sud, Iran (rispettivamente prima e seconda del Girone A), Giappone e Arabia Saudita (prima e seconda del Girone B). Il regolamento prevede uno spareggio tra le terze dei due raggruppamenti: sicura del piazzamento è già l'Australia (terza nel Girone B), che dovrà vedersela con una tra Emirati Arabi Uniti e Iraq, in lotta per il terzo posto nel Girone A. Non è tutto, però, perché la vincente dello spareggio asiatico dovrà poi vedersela, come detto, con la quinta del raggruppamento sudamericano. La strada insomma è davvero in salita.
CONCACAF-NORD, CENTRO AMERICA E CARAIBI: UNA QUALIFICATA
Nella confederazione centro-nord americana e caraibica mancano due turni da disputare: il Canada si è qualificato per il Qatar con un turno di anticipo, mentre Stati Uniti, Messico, Costa Rica e Panama, classifica alla mano, si giocano gli altri due posti che valgono l'accesso diretto ai Mondiali. La quarta dovrà invece affrontare il secondo playoff interzona in programma a giugno, contro una nazionale OFC.
OFC-OCEANIA: ZERO QUALIFICATE
Il torneo di qualificazione della piccola Confederazione dell'Oceania non ha ancora emesso verdetti: tutto passa dai playoff, dove da un lato del tabellone si affronteranno Isole Salomone e Papua Nuova Guinea, dall'altro Nuova Zelanda e Tahiti. La finale è in programma il 30 marzo, la nazionale che ne uscirà vincitrice sfiderà a giugno la quarta classificata del centro-nord America.
CAF-AFRICA: 5 QUALIFICATE
Cinque posti a disposizione per le nazionali della confederazione africana: dopo Ghana, Senegal, Marocco e Tunisia, l'ultima qualificata è il Camerun.

A caccia del pareggio, l'Italia alza il baricentro e prova a verticalizzare. In vantaggio, la Turchia invece serra le linee e gioca di rimessa cercando Under e Akturkoglu tra le linee. Da una parte Zaniolo e Biraghi ci provano dal limite, ma la mira è sbagliata. Dall'altra la difesa azzurra mura invece un destro potente di Calhanoglu. In pressione, la squadra di Mancini guadagna metri, aumenta il ritmo e manovra in ampiezza. E proprio da una punizione da sinistra di Biraghi arriva il pareggio di Cristante, bravo a battere Bayindir di testa con uno stacco implacabile. Gol che rimette gli azzurri in carreggiata e dà una svolta al match. Più aggressiva, l'Italia infatti alza il pressing, aumenta i giri in mediana e spinge. E da un rinvio sbagliato di Bayindir intercettato da Tonali arriva il guizzo di Raspadori che ribalta il risultato. Vantaggio che, dopo un rischio su Unal, nel finale del primo tempo Donnarumam difende volando su un destro velenoso di Calhanoglu.
La ripresa si apre con l'ingresso in campo di Zaccagni al posto di uno spento Zaniolo e con una parata di Donnarumma su una punizione precisa di Calhanoglu. Occasione che fa il paio con un destro di Zaccagni da buona posizione respinto dalla retroguardia turca. Con gli spazi intasati, l'Italia prova a gestire la gara a centrocampo con Tonali e ad attaccare lo spazio con Pessina, ma i turchi fanno densità al limite e non si passa. A caccia di forze fresche, Kuntz fa entrare Ozcan, Dursun e Kutlu. Da una parte Donnarumam ferma un tentativo di Ayhan.
